Over 400 women are set to have a thrilling second edition of the annual Women In Energy (WIE) Conference, which takes place on March 9 and 10 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The Conference, which is spearheaded by the Women of JPS, seeks to broaden the discussion on the developments in energy and how everyone impacts the future of energy.
The conference also aims to empower women in male-dominated industries by providing a platform for them to constructively address global challenges and opportunities that will foster their advancement professionally and personally. Women from across Jamaica, the Caribbean and North America are expected to participate.
The exciting line-up of speakers at this year’s event includes Oscar Award Winner and Managing Director of GreensLedge, Leslie Goldwasser and Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. A number of outstanding corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and development specialists will also form part of the panel discussions.
This year, a male panel has also been introduced to the Conference agenda. The objective is to afford male leaders an opportunity to share their perspective on issues surrounding women’s leadership. Among the speakers on the men’s panel are:
Christopher Barnes – Managing Director, Gleaner; Wayne McKenzie – General
Manager, Jamaica Energy Partners and Wayne Henry – Director General, Planning Institute of Jamaica.
Since its inception in 2016, the Conference has garnered significant support among women in Jamaica and across the region. In speaking about the event, Kelly Tomblin – JPS CEO, noted that, “the goal is to continue to build from strength to strength. Last year we enjoyed a 98% satisfaction rating from participants, and this year, we are confident that we will inspire women to continue to build eminence for their organizations. The Conference will facilitate a mix of high energy discourses and practical approaches from successful individuals and enterprises from the Caribbean and North America, with real-life industry application. We will share and celebrate success stories since the previous Conference, and set the stage for even greater achievements, individually and collectively,” she added.
A number of local and international companies have shown their support for the Conference through sponsorships. These include: Marubeni, New Fortress Energy, TSK, BMR Energy, the ICD Group of Companies, Jamaica Energy Partners (JEP), Sagicor Group, JMMB, and the Jamaica Private Power Company (JPPC).
